Contact and Non-Contact Forces

All forces can be described to be either contact, or non-contact.

Non-Contact

A non-contact force is where the force is not physically touching the object - e.g. gravity pulling a person towards the earth's core.

Contact

A contact force, unlike a non-contact force, is where the force is physically touching the object - e.g. a hand pushing against a door.
