Direct Proportion

Direct Proportion is where two values increase at the same rate.

\[ y = kx \]

Where:

  • k is the constant of proportionality

Example

The National Living Wage (in 2017) is £7.50 1

Ronald gets paid the National Living Wage, and works 5 days a week working 5 hours a day. How much does Ronald get paid in a week?

\[ \begin{align} y & = kx \\ & = 7.50 * (5* 5) \\ & = 7.50 * 25 \\ & = £187.50 \end{align} \]
