Equilibrium

Equilibrium is a state in which two forces acting on something, affect said something the same as the other.

Reversible Reactions

For example, in reversible reactions when both the forwards and backwards reaction happen at the same rate, they have met equilibrium. The best analogy I could find was:

Imagine walking the wrong way on an escalator - at the same speed as the escalator, but in the opposite direction. 1
