Weight

Weight is the force of an object, caused by gravity. It is unlike mass, in that weight changes planet-to-planet, because the gravitational field strength changes - mass doesn't because it is a measure of matter, not force.

Equation

\[ W = mg \]

Where:

  • \(W\) is the weight of the object, in Newtons (N)
  • \(m\) is the mass of the object, in kilograms (kg)
  • \(g\) is the gravitational field strength, in newtons per kilogram (N/kg)
