Catalysts

Catalysts are substances that lower the activation energy required to start a given reaction. Many are man-made, however there are also natural examples, such as enzymes. Catalysts are not consumed by the reaction, and can be used without effect to themselves. They work by providing the reactants a shorter path, to allow for more frequent collisions.
