USB Flash Memory

A USB flash drive (Universal Serial Bus) is a popular way to store digital information. Flash drives are an easy way to share data (information). A USB flash drive can be attached to a USB port and provides a certain amount of storage space, which can be used to store data. USB flash drives are used with devices found in homes, workplaces and schools.

Advantages

  • Cheap to buy
  • Portable because they are so small
  • Requires very little power
  • Very reliable (have no moving parts)
  • No drivers required to read/write

Disadvantages

  • Can easily be lost
  • Limited number of write and erase cycles before the drive fails
  • Data may corrupt
  • The USB may wear and break
  • A drawback to the small size is that they are easily misplaced, left behind, or otherwise lost.
