Hard Drives

Hard Drives, or HDD as they are often referred to as, are a form of magnetic media storage. They are easily the most popular form of secondary storage for use with computers. This is likely because they provide the most storage for price paid.

However, in recent years the SSD has been rather popular with system builders and gamers, as they provide vastly faster read/write speeds. While they have taken off somewhat, the price will need to drop significantly before they over traditional hard drives.

Hard Drives are slow by design, as they rely on a mechanical system to operate, spinning disks and reading from them using a laser means that they really can't get much faster.

However, SSHDs have been popular recently - being a mix of a solid state drive and a traditional hard drive.
